Removing hair from areas of the body through professional waxing has become main-stream. It is as much of a necessity as a good hair cut. For women, the most requested waxing services are: brow shaping, lips, chin, under arms, traditional bikini and Brazilian waxing. Back waxing is the most requested for men, especially, during, but not limited to the warmer seasons when they may take off their shirts outside. Back and chest waxing leaves a smooth soft look and feel. Needless to say women love the look and how it feels on men. It is not uncommon for men to request brow grooming that’s not detailed and defined as women’s brows. Men also have stumbled on the benefits of hair removal from the shoulders, arms, nose and even the ears. Except for men’s facial hairs unwanted hair can probably be waxed away.

WHAT TO EXPECT

If a client is receiving any type of bikini waxing, it is important that they arrive freshly showered. After filling out an assessment form and having a consultation with their esthetician, the procedure is simple. The area where the hair will be removed needs to be at least ¼ to ½ inches long or the wax will not adhere to the hair. The skin is prepped and some hair may be trimmed. Warm wax is applied to the area with a spatula. A thin strip of paper-like material called pellon is applied to the area in small sections. As the strip is removed with a precise motion, the hair stuck to the strip is quickly pulled out of its follicle. Large areas of hair are not waxed off as done in the movie scene The 40 Year Old Virgin. The technique and pain in the movie were comically exaggerated. After the desired amount has been removed then additional grooming is done, as necessary, for the look and shape preferred. Hair re-growth is not noticed for 3 to 6 weeks depending on the individual. Does it hurt? Waxing is uncomfortable at first, given that it\'s a new sensation. Any discomfort dissipates quickly and decreases with regular visits, as less hair is removed each time. Caffeine, menstruation and pregnancy increases skin and emotional sensitivity. Some people take ibuprophen to minimize discomfort.

TO WAX OR NOT TO WAX… that is the important question

Areas that are being waxed cannot have been recently exposured to chemical peels, massage therapy, tanning, radiation and chemo-therapy. It isn\'t suitable for those on certain medications such as Retinoids and Accutane, or for people with diabetes or particular skin conditions.

BRAZIL, more people than ever are visiting

Hair removal from the pubic area at one time was not considered… except in Brazil. For a long time Brazilian women have opted for full hair removal from the pubic area as well as the whole body. For these women, feeling clean, confident and smooth is as very natural as what you experience with under arm waxing. Also, not being addictive to a razor every four to seven days is liberating. But one does not have to opt for complete hair removal down there. A basic bikini-line hair removal is very common. Again, arriving at the spa freshly showered is important. After the procedure, a product is used to calm the skin and the beauty begins! Products are also available for purchase to control ingrown hairs which are a possibility. Somewhere in between Brazil and the United States is Peru. Basically, a Peruvian Wax is the same as Brazilian, but a thin strip of hair is left down the center. The procedure is the same.
