REAL MEN GET FACIALS

In some recent research on men’s grooming, I compared the top 20 professional careers and top 20 non-professional careers and the most interesting thing that I found between the two categories was that regardless of high profile or low profile, blue collar or white collar, a focus on grooming has become a part of the male lifestyle. It’s a new day!

As a spa owner and one who studies spa trends on a regular basis, I am seeing more and more men request and receive facials, manicures and pedicures, highlights in their hair and have their backs, brows, arms and shoulders waxed. You have probably noticed that more and more salons, spas, skin care and hair care companies are catering to this booming phenomenon with products, menus, and even spa/salons just for men!

Very often our female clients complain that their male partners use up their cleansers, moisturizers and yes even their masks! They want better looking skin too -- and why not? Better grooming draws a positive response from people. You are more confident, which invokes better performance. It’s called looking good, feeling better. So, how simple or complicated is it to begin and maintain this “sprucing up?” Is it a daily, weekly or a monthly thing? It all depends, because we are all unique in personalities and looks, and men like to keep it simple, so let’s establish that there are no set rules. How much time is invested is left up to the individual. You can cleanse, tone and moisturize at home and get a facial once per season.

Colleen Hanson of Boston, MA. has this opinion of men getting manicures:
“When I see a man with well-manicured hands, regardless of his position in life, I see a man that not only takes time for himself, but takes care of himself as well. They say first impressions are lasting impressions and handshakes are a good indication of a person, not only is a firm handshake important, but so is a well cared for hand. I feel it's just as important for men to take care of their hands as it is for women.”

So ladies, the next time you call for your manicure or facial appointment or can’t get in to get your brows and lip waxed, the pharmacist, carpenter or perhaps the waiter around the corner may have your regular spot!
